5 Ways to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

It is easy for us ADDers to get stuck. You snuggle yourself deep into that warm, secure and comforting comfort zone.  However if you want to improve your life you will have to step out of that zone sooner or later.  Because it is there that you will find the new and exciting experiences.  It is also where you will find the freedom from your boredom.  Here are 5 ideas that can assist you to step out of your comfort zone, and make the process easier

Start Small– There is no need for you to dive in the pool head first, start by just sticking you foot in. Instead take one small step at a time, this will help you grow and learn from what you are experiencing better.  For example, if you want to go back to college but you are afraid that you won’t do well, start out by doing some research on the college to see what they provide (i.e. programs, services ect). Then when you feel comfortable with that you can move up from there. By the time you are ready to apply to, the process will be a little easier for you. By taking small steps you will de-sensitize yourself from the fear or what makes you feel uncomfortable, the better you will start living your life

Set Goals – One of the best ways to follow your progress is to set goals for yourself. You can make them as often as daily or monthly. Over time you may or may not lose track of your goals and everything will come to you naturally. It is just like running a marathon, you start with what is most comfortable to you and slowly start pushing yourself more and more to reach your goals. Before you know it, you are able to run 10k without even trying

Know That It is Ok to Fail – Most ADDers don’t get it right the first time, and that is ok.  Remind yourself, that if you can’t get it the first time, there will always be more opportunities to try again. You just have to stick with it and keep on trying. Quitting can be your enemy when it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone, if you stop trying you will never beat your enemy.  It is important to remember if you fail the first time, try it a different way the second time. Taking new approaches to stepping out of your comfort zone will allow you to recognize and go about it. Once you have accomplished one fear, you can revisit one that you did not do well within the past. You can do try this until you have gotten to a point where you have completely stepped out of your comfort zone.

Find What Motivates You – If you find yourself in doubt, try to find something that motivates you.  Many people turn to motivational quotes to keep them going, whatever it is stick with it and turn to it when you feel you are doubting yourself.


Have A Support Group – If you feel that you need some more support, find people who will support you through this process.  Whatever the comfort zone maybe that you are trying to get out of, there are people who are probably doing the same.  Support groups could be friends, family but it also can be find throughout the internet.
