Five Ways to Overcome Frustration & Discouragement with Adult ADD/ADHD

Overcoming frustration and discouragement with Adult ADHD can be very challenging because we are starting from a place of negativity and despair. It may feel so difficult to get into a better place and it may feel like it is never going to go away.

We have all been there, done that. It feels like the whole world is against us, and nothing seems to be going right.  I am well aware of this because this is something I used to struggle with when I was first diagnosed with ADHD.

It is possible to overcome these feelings of frustration and discouragement. There are several steps to take to get out of this funk.

  • Don’t Allow Yourself To Go There
The first thing that you should do is to stop yourself from going into the place of negativity. You are no good to yourself or others around you when you are in this place. Instead, identify the negative patterns and find solutions.
  • Take A Break
Take time away from what is causing you stress or feeling of overwhelm. Step away from some of your responsibilities for a while such as checking your email, saying no to things that may cause you more distress, and take time away from people do not support you.
  • Focus on the Positives
Look as deep as you can so you can find the positives things in your life, because they are there. Once you identify them, think about them. If you cannot think of anything positive at this time, try saying some positive affirmations to get your mind going in the right direction
  • Focus on Humor – This may sound a little weird but if you can get yourself to laugh, it can do yourself a world of good. You can completely change your outlook in life with just a little laughter.
  • Talk to a Friend: It is always important to reach out to a friend to help you through your difficult moments in your life. Reach out to those friends who have been where you are. This is what I have done in the areas of my personal and business life when I felt frustrated and overwhelmed
