Handling Holiday Stress with ADHD

Although it can be a joyful time, the holidays can bring about quite a bit of stress with it, however when you throw ADHD into the mix, it can be just overwhelming. Instead of enjoying the holiday season, you know that changes in your routine, traveling and just the basic holiday hustle and bustle can affect Adult ADHD symptoms.

There are some strategies that you can use to manage your ADHD throughout the holiday season

§  Figure Out Your Holiday Triggers – What causes you stress during the holidays?  Is it spending time with certain family members, spending it alone, or not having money to buy presents? Whatever the trigger maybe for you, recognizing it can assist you in finding other ways to make the holidays more enjoyable

§  Think About the Good Times – The holidays are a good time to sit back and ponder upon all the good things that have happened to you in the past year.  During the holiday stress, we sometimes only focus on the negative and we end up feeling frustrated and discouraged.  Instead, just stay positive and remember the good.

§  Take a Break– Take time away from what is causing you the stress or feeling of overwhelm. Stepping away from some of the holiday hustle and bustle, gives you time to get your mind clear and focused so you can then go back and enjoy the holidays with your family and friends
