Overcoming the Blahs: How to Move Forward When You Don’t Feel Like It

You know the blahs. It is that time in life when you feel heavy, lethargic and have no energy, even when you had a good night’s sleep.   In a matter of fact, you feel like you want to take a nap.  Your job doesn’t hold a lot of interest or worse your friends are kind but do not understand.  Or maybe you are having financial trouble or experienced a set back and you just cannot seem to snap out of it.  So what do you do about it? Here are some ways to getting out of the funk
Own Your Blah Moments– Hold yourself accountable for how you feels. Do not misuse your time & energy looking for something or someone to blame. No matter what has happened you can always choose how you want to react.
Don’t resist the feeling – This is the biggest cause of mental and emotional drain. When you are not up to doing anything, you keep on fighting and creating more pain for yourself. Try to accept the blah as it comes; there is no point in fighting it. So when you don’t feel like it, take a look within and see how you can move past it. Talk to your blah and you can say something like, I know you are here for a reason, tell me what I can learn from you. I bet it will not take you more than a few minutes before you start feeling better.
Accept Your Limitations– You are not a machine and should not allow yourself to function at the same level. You will have good days and bad days. We all do. If you have limitation in parts of your life, accept it without judgment.  Instead of focusing on your limitations, be open to the opportunities and resources that can be available to you.
Gain Clarity – To motivate yourself to keep yourself going, you should be clear about what you want and why you want it. This is the best thing you can do for yourself; it will give you a sense of direction and ignite your motivation.
Be Flexible – Balancing your important day to day tasks with life’s unexpected interruptions is a given in. Keeping your life flexible means that you are allowing yourself for things to happen.  Do not over commit or over schedule your time, it is a recipe for disaster. Try to pick two important tasks to do per day; this will give you more time to deal with other things as they come up. If you pick two tasks to do each day, you will accomplish 10 tasks a week and a whopping 500 tasks a year. That will be quite an achievement.
