Self-Esteem Boosters for Adults with ADHD

If you haven’t realized it yet, no one is perfect.  Many adults with ADHD may struggle more than most other people in life, and their self esteem may take a pounding because of it.  This is because when adults with ADHD go through life with negative thinking, it makes sense that they may develop a negative attitude as a result. With this in mind, increasing self esteem can be a difficult process however it can be done by trying the strategies below

 Indentify your negative beliefs –

If you are going to improve your self esteem, it is vital to understand what your negative beliefs are and where they generated from.  It can be a difficult process, so it is important that you don’t rush through this and perhaps you can ask a friend/significant other to support you. If you are feeling distraught, then go and seek professional help 

Friends & Family –

If you tend to have low self-esteem, there may be people in your life who tend to encourage your negative beliefs and opinions that you have. It is important figure out who these individuals are and to take steps to have them stop doing this or just limit yourself on how much time you spend with them.  Try to associate with indidvuals who won’t critize you and who you feel comfortable talk to about what is going on in your life.  Having positive friends in your life can make your experiences seem more realistic and assist you with taken action steps

Positive Thinking –

There are many different ways to help you think positive about yourself. Make a list of 50 different positive things about yourself even if this takes you a few weeks; keep this list in a place where you can look at every day. For instance, if you are worried about an event like a job interview, take 5 to 10 minutes out of your day to read the whole list & show yourself that you have a lot to offer
