For an adult with ADHD self doubt can a troubling and a believable voice that holds you back. It holds you back from meeting our needs or pursuing our goals and a tendency to never trust our own instincts and reason is a bane to happiness and growth. It also interferes with establishing new relationships, and it can block our progress in choosing a career. So how can you get around that, how can you overcome your feelings of self-doubt so that you can move forward again? Here are six ways to help you overcome self-doubt
Recognize & Acknowledge Your Self-Doubt – You can’t overcome something until you first become aware that it is there. If you give into the temptation to ignore or deny yourself doubt, it will limit you on your ability to act. If you think that it exists, you need to address it so it can be dealt with. The better you become at identifying hidden doubts, the easier it will be to overcome them.
Analyze your self doubt – Spend some time figuring out what triggered it and why? When you analyze the feelings that come with self-doubt, you make them vulnerable. And when you question the validity of feelings this brings them within the reach of reason.
Identify the source. If you can figure out where these feelings are coming from, then you can hit them where they live. You don’t need to psychoanalyze yourself back to childhood or anything like that. Just try to get a hold of on the area of your life that creates your sense of hesitation so you can work on it.
Is there a pattern. Do you have a record of self doubt in a specific area of your life? Self doubt has a tendency to have favorite places to hang out. This raises the likelihood that you have gone through something like this before. Try to think back, have you been down this road before. Did you have self-doubts? Did you overcome them? If so, what did you do to overcome them? If not, what can you do differently this time around?
Anticipate possible challenges. Now look at your plan and try to figure out any possible challenges that will come along the way. Is there some area that you need help with? If so, ask a close friend or family member to give you some encouragement. Sometimes, some foresight and a little support is all it takes.
Take Action – Sit down and write out a plan for overcoming your self-doubt. Figure out what steps you are going to take and then put your plan into action.
